Banilad School
Mindoro Island – Philippines
In December 2015 the disastrous “Nona” typhoon hit Pinamalayan, a town located in the Oriental side of the Mindoro Island (PH), and demolished many buildings. The Banilad Elementary School was heavily damaged, and 3 classrooms were totally destroyed. The school is situated in a very poor rural area, 15 km away from the main town.
Kito completed a reconstruction project thanks to its partnership with ASF Veneto and the Philippine Women’s Association. The project’s beneficiaries were 275 childrens attending school and the educational staff, 8 teachers, who until that moment were hosted in makeshift shelters (2016-2018). The structure was made with concrete and steel, with finishes made with local materials such as coconutwood, bamboo and salawi.
